2023 Peace Festival Information
Starting at noon on the lawn of the Honokaa Salvation Army, the festival will feature an opening chant by Reverend Yamagishi, the release of "peace doves," the Jazz Band of Honoka`a High & Intermediate School (led by Grammy award winner Gary Washburn) and Hilo Taishoji Taiko group. Angel Prince Dance Institute will also perform and there will be a community bon dance led by the bon dancers of Honoka`a Hongwanji and other temples. There will be tribute to the labor martyr Katsu Goto (www.KatsuGotoMovie.org), introduction of members of his extended family from Japan and presentation of proclamations by the County of Hawai`i and the State of Hawai`i. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zjV-pBmO0CPrd3l5Y3dUZfNzS-6WPzCdpc8KetXgKq8/edit. Cast members of the musical "Peace On Your Wings" ( https://www.peaceonyourwings.com/ ) will be coming from Oahu to perform a musical tribute to Honoka`a's Home Town Hero.
Following the entertainment at the festival, Honokaa People's Theater will have a free showing of "Across the Universe," which features the music of the Beatles. 3:30 pm. https://www.honokaapeople.com/

14th Annual Parade & Festival for the United Nations International Day of Peace
Honoka‘a, on the Big Island of Hawai‘i hosts the premiere Peace Day event in the State of Hawai'i, and the only event of its kind worldwide, a Parade and Festival demonstrating unity in support of peace, compassion and awareness of interdependence.
Student Peace Poster Contest!
Students and teachers from around the globe will be urged to express their own interpretation of this year's Peace Poster Contest theme, "Peace Through Health." Prizes will be awarded for various age divisions. The contest is open to all students and homeschoolers.

Peace Day Parade!
Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m. The signature Peace Day event, when Mamane Street will close for the "moving stage" of marching bands, taiko drummers, hula, bon dancers, cirque performers and multicultural music and entertainment.
This year’s theme: “We’ve Got the Beat!”
Peace Day Festival
Saturday, September 21, 12-2 p.m at the Honokaa County Park (Sports Complex). Admission is free and all are welcome.
“Wine at 5”
A Blue Zones project at Cafe Il Mondo, 5pm, Friday, September 20. Free wine samples. Live Music by the New Dharma Band.
Read for Peace
Thursday, September 12, 5-6 p.m. at Honoka’a Public Library, with Honoka’a author Sara Akerman, “Island of Sweet Pies and Soldiers.” Join us for an engaging conversation about the stories of the U.S. Military presence in Honoka’a during World War II.

Experience four sessions of guided sitting and walking meditation, followed by a Dharma discussion with Questions & Answers.
